Zain-ul-Abidin (Budshah)

Zain-ul-Abidin's fifty-year reign is remembered as a golden age. He invited back Pandits who had left the Valley, ended the jizya, supported scholars of Sanskrit and Persian, and backed crafts, canals, bridges and towns. Kalhana's chronicle and the Mahabharata were translated into Persian under his patronage.

  • Zaina Kadal, one of Srinagar's old bridges, carries his name.
