The Mughal Road

The mountain route the emperors took into the Valley.

Mughal emperors and their courts crossed the Pir Panjal range by this route, with rest houses called sarais built along the way. Today a modern road follows much of the old route between Poonch and Shopian, usually closed by snow in winter.
