Yusuf Shah Chak

The last independent king of Kashmir.

Yusuf Shah Chak ruled during the final years before the Mughal conquest. Summoned by Akbar and defeated in 1586, he was taken away and died in exile in Bihar. Many Kashmiris remember him as the last ruler of an independent Kashmir.

  • Rivals at court briefly drove him from the throne early in his reign.
