Agha Shahid Ali

The poet who carried Kashmir into English verse.

Born in New Delhi and raised in Srinagar, Agha Shahid Ali wrote in English about memory, exile and his homeland. His collection The Country Without a Post Office, published in 1997, is one of the best-known literary works about Kashmir in the 1990s, and he did much to bring the ghazal form into English.
